What’s New in Content Filter: Built from Customer Feedback, Designed for Modern K-12
n the K-12 world, the role of a Technology Director often feels like a constant balancing act. You need to keep the digital learning space safe and compliant, but you also need to minimize the “noise” that drains your team’s time, budget, and resources.
We hear you. We talk to IT teams daily, and we know that your biggest challenges aren’t just about web content filtering, but they are about management, visibility, and finding tools that work with your workflow rather than against it. That is why our latest update to the ManagedMethods Content Filter platform is built directly on the feedback you’ve shared with us.
Here is how we are helping your team regain control and reduce the day-to-day administrative headaches.
Smarter Protection for an Evolving Web
Digital learning shifts fast. With students being more resourceful than ever, and AI platforms changing how we interact with the web, we’ve bolstered our defenses to make sure your district’s team isn’t scrambling to keep up.
Smarter AI and ML Protection: We’ve expanded our risk scanning intelligence to block and evaluate user interactions with modern LLM platforms including Perplexity, You.com, Grok, and Deepseek. We also monitor support for MagicSchool AI, Character.ai, and Google’s AI mode.
Closing the Loop on Workarounds: We’ve shut the door on common device-level workarounds by adding support for Brave, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo Search. Plus, we’ve introduced a single-toggle, browser-level enforcement that forces SafeSearch parameters, making it significantly harder for students to bypass filters.
TLD (Top Level Domain) Blocking: You can now ban entire top-level domains (like .io or .ru) via wildcard support, giving you a powerful tool to quickly cut off access to high-risk domains.
Simplify Everyday Admin Management
Managing a district-wide filter shouldn’t require a manual override for every single request. We’ve focused on automation and granular control to streamline your operations.
Timeframe Policies: Automate your life! You can now set schedules for filtering, meaning you can lock down games during school hours but relax restrictions after school or during summer breaks automatically.
Granular Admin Control & Role-Based Access: We have introduced enhanced delegation capabilities, giving you more control over administrative roles. You can now limit data views to specific users based on roles. This is a game-changer if you need to give a teacher or substitute access to platform controls for a specific class without handing over full admin privileges.
Group Policy Inheritance: We’ve added the ability to disable policy settings for custom groups. This is perfect for “penalty boxes” or specialized groups where you need a strict, isolated set of rules that don’t inherit from your general OU settings.
Bulk Operations: Stop the manual clicking. We’ve added support for bulk importing YouTube videos, channels, and keywords via spreadsheets, and included quick actions to mass-delete items from allow/block lists.
Default Domain Persistence: For districts managing multiple domains, we’ve removed the confusion of account switching. Admins can now set a default domain, making sure users land on the correct data view immediately upon login.
When a site is blocked, you shouldn’t have to spend 20 minutes investigating why. We’ve improved transparency so you have the answers you need in seconds.
Violation Insight Depth: We’ve added summary data points so you can clearly see the origin of a block. You’ll be able to tell immediately if a site was blocked because of a specific teacher’s session, saving you from troubleshooting phantom issues.
Streamlined category UI: Categories now have an allow or block toggle for quick settings, configurations, and optimization.
False Positive Reporting: You can now report false positives instantly. This data goes directly into retraining our internal ML models, which means the system gets more accurate the more you use it, resulting in fewer alerts for you or someone on your team to review later.
Improved Notifications: We’ve overhauled alert content and subject lines. You’ll get clear, actionable information at a glance, rather than having to dig into the system to understand what triggered an alert.
Built to Support Your Success
Finally, we want to make sure you have the support you need, when you need it. We’ve integrated a direct in-app support chatbot to help streamline your troubleshooting. We are also committed to accessibility, making sure our platform remains WCAG 2.1 compliant.
These updates are all about helping you spend less time managing systems and more time focusing on keeping students engaged and safe. We’re constantly listening to your feedback, so keep it coming!
