Schools' Embrace of Cloud Technology Creates Gaps in Cybersecurity, Safety, and Compliance
New research by EdWeek Research Center suggests that school districts lack the information and resources they need to adequately protect sensitive data stored in Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and other cloud applications
Key Findings:
- Over 94% of school districts are in the cloud, with over 70% of them storing sensitive student and HR data in cloud applications
- 50% of these same districts either are not protecting their cloud data or don't know if they are
- The median K-12 cybersecurity budget is just $20K per year, with only 20% of that allocated for protecting cloud apps
